Presenting

Open with your conclusion, then give three reasons

Start with your conclusion, not your background. Nervous presenters often spend minutes on context and reach their point when the audience has stopped listening. Instead, state your claim in one sentence, then promise three reasons. Example: 'Rural clinics lose patients because of transport costs, not distance. I will give three pieces of evidence.' Each slide then serves one reason. Listeners follow more easily, and if time runs short you can cut a reason without breaking the argument.

Try this today: Write your current project's main finding in one sentence. Say it aloud in under fifteen seconds, then add three reasons. Time yourself.
